Page 9. That year he was coming to Malaysia, and to promote his tour, there was a program about him on TV. The night of the program, my dad and mom and I ate a quick dinner and settled in front of the TV in the living room of our apartment in Kuala Lumpur.
I remember watching, my eyes wide with amazement, as the American magician did trick after trick, each more incredible than the last.
Then, as the grand fnale, he made a huge green statue in America—what my parents called the Statue of Liberty— disappear. Overcome with wonder, I felt some- thing click into place inside me. I want to be a magician. For days, all I could talk about was the magic show.
A few weeks later, my parents bought me a magic kit that had a device in it that made coins vanish. I spent hours in my room practicing. When I turned 11, my mother bought me a full set of magic equip- ment, and I started doing shows for my friends, performing at birthday parties and even at my school. As the years passed, my goals became more ambitious. I longed to train with the best magicians in the world—all of whom were in America.
